Mindfulness Meets Gardening
Mindfulness meets gardening in this hands-on creative workshop at The Perch! Farmers Sarah and Rachel of Homegrown Health Farms will walk you through the step-by-step process of planting, growing, and harvesting your own microgreens. Incorporating mindfulness techniques, participants will design their own "micro-art" using a 10x10" tray as their canvas. Participants will get to create and plant their own designs with a variety of seeds to take home.
Microgreens are young, edible seedlings of herbs and vegetables that are larger than sprouts but smaller than baby vegetables. They pack a punch when it comes to nutrients, and they add a beautiful and crunchy addition to your favorite dishes. They can be grown indoors, making them a great choice for the winter months!
Get practical tips on nurturing your greens in this hands-on experience of combining art and gardening. We will discuss how to eat and enjoy microgreens while sampling some microgreen hors d'oeuvres in class.
Price of ticket includes your own grow kit valued at $35! Join us at 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 26 at The Perch: 140 S River St., Suite 114, Aurora, IL 60506. Registration will end on January 23 or when spots are sold out, whichever comes first.
About the Presenters
Located in Oswego, Homegrown Health Farms is family owned and operated by wives Rachel Trumbore and Sarah Campbell. Rachel and Sarah believe in the importance of localizing the food supply chain, and offering the community a local source of produce grown with organic methods. They decided to start growing microgreens because of the ability to grow them indoors using vertical farming methods, allowing them to grow year-round. They started selling at the Downtown Aurora Farmers Market in 2022. They love teaching others how to grow their own food, and microgreens are one of the easiest ways to start doing that!
